I'm backpacking through Europe with a girl this summer, and we both want to stop by Amsterdam for a couple of days. However, her parents don't want her to go because of obvious reasons (ie legalized marijuana and such) What are some good excuses and activities that we could tell her parents we want to see/do that will hopefully change their minds?

I'm 18, she's 17. I have no idea why she needs her parents permission, but she doesn't want to go to Amsterdam if her parents say no. Kind of annoying, but a fixable problem...

if either of you are jewish play the "I wanna learn about my heritage" card... there's the anne frank house and a pretty nice jewish historical museum here.

(not only are these "excuses" but really good reasons for you to come visit...outside of the weed reason)

You could say you're thinking of majoring in Art History in college and you're going to see the works of the most famous artisits...3 of which are:

- Van Gogh museum takes you through his life and death and houses his most famous works.
- Rijksmuseum...home of Rembrant's Night Watch and the best of his works
- The Mauritius House museum in the Hague (Den Haag) is home to most of Vermeer's work (The Girl with the Pearl Earring)

In Amsterdam is a broad spectral range of attractions for recreational and cultural sightseeing. They vary from interesting previous houses, just like the Oude Kerk, to oddities like the Hash

Look up some musuems in the area that would sound interesting or some sort of holiday or festival [that might make it worst]. Look up specific landmarks.. that's all I can tell you and assure them you two will be fine and promise to call them..

Holiday is good enough reason. You go where you wish to. Happiness is the underlying purpose of life, beyond all philosophy. If one is not happy, it wasn't a good life for them, regardless of the accomplishments given.
