My parents have their 50th Wedding Anniversary next year. All their friends have had theirs the past couple of years and had nice parties with family and friends. Tonight my mother called to tell me that she doesn't want us to put a party on for them. What should I do?

50th wedding anniversary is traditionally gold. I would try to find out what colors or flowers they used at their initial wedding and use that information for accents. That will bring back some sweet memories of their wedding day

if she really doesn't want one, then have a nice dinner with your parents' kids, grandkids and closest friends.

if she's 'just saying that', have a party, but tell her when it will be.

definately celebrate it one way or another. something i did for a friend of mine: get their family & friends to secretly tape a short (1-min) msg about good memories, what their friendship means to them, happy anniversary, etc. that will mean a lot to them.
