What does that really mean when it reads like "must have proven accounting experience"??

Does that mean all the work experience you mention in the resume must be provided with a referee to prove that they are true??

I would take that to mean that they want you to have worked in either an accounting department or an accounting firm as opposed to just having the education required for the position. I would expect them to give you an accounting or bookkeeping test.

It probably means that you might have to jump right in and show them you know how to use the software that they use during the interview. It may also mean that they will most definitely be calling your references to ask about your experience.
