Cost isnt everything. It depends on what kind of games you want. Do you also want music or videos? PSP does have more capabilities than a ds, etc.

the PSP because you can play music, play games, and my friend said that she can talk to people too. But the DS only chats with people and plays games. Also, my brother, 4 of my friends, my 5 neighbors and me had a DS lite and it broke in 1 week. Then, I got the PSP and I have had it for about a year now and I love it. I have had no problems with it and you should definitly get the PSP.

Take it from me, get the ds lite. I bought both, but the PSP sucks. The DS Lite has more games and its easier to carry around because its small. Try not to get the white one though because it gets noticable scratches easily. The colors are pink, white, and black. Also, the PSP is more expensive than the DS Lite!

DS Lite, hands down.

Why?
Better games: New SMB, Animal Crossing, 2 Castlevanias, Mario Kart, FFIII, an upcoming FFXII, Brain Age, Metroid Prime: H, Advance Wars DS, a gazillion Pokemons, etc.
More innovation: use the stylus for surgery, FPS aiming, minigames, etc.
Better bang for the buck: lots and lots of quality games and third party exclusives.
Connectivity to Wii: for the future.
Cost: You can buy a Lite + handful of excellent games for the price of one empty PSP.

What does the PSP offer?
PSP is a media player. Who needs all those functions when you have a computer? Whopdedoo! Even a portable DVD player is better!
UMD is dead: Sony backed out. That's ANOTHER failed format!
PSP is losing third parties: Square Enix, Capcom, and friends are moving the DS. Why? 3x the fanbase.
Connectivity to PS3: so it can be a rearview mirror? And I spent $250 on this thing?
PSP has only a few good games. Sony is focusing on the PS3, not the PSP. They will forget about it by 2007.

Bottom line: DS for games, PSP for multimedia (but not for games).

DS Lite

On a DS Lite, you can play DS AND Gameboy Advance games... twice as much as a PSP! and with a DS you can connect to other people with their DS and play games against them!!!

Depends on what you want out of your gaming experience. The PSP has a shortage of variety in games, but you get a lot of extras, like movies and a music-player.

The DS has a lot of fun games, with a wide variety of game types (RPGs, platformers, puzzlers, etc), plus it can play GBA games.
