A few ideas:
-a rechargeable battery kit so he doesn't have to worry about finding batteries all the time (for a practical kid)
-some footballs, baseballs or basketballs (esp. since the kid is nearing high school age) - just don't get one, try to get two or more
-an mp3 player filled with music or walkman (lots of them are in the $25 range)
-a brew your own soda kit (they have some cool ones at Edmund Scientific)
-a visible man doll, like the ones at body worlds (which are also educational!) - last time I saw, they were at the discovery store
Hopefully that helps!

I agree with angeldust 599. It would maybe be different if he were a small child, but I believe that at his age, part of the money you spend should be on either clothes or food. At the business that I manage, we also are doing "adopt a family" and we are getting equal amounts of toys, clothes and food for the family. Bless you and your classmates for doing this and making a needy family's holiday a little brighter :)
Edit: I just saw that you did already get him some clothes. I don't know how much money you have left to spend, but how about a board game or two that's appropriate for his age?

When I was thirteen toys weren't exactly my idea of a good time. :) Since you have already purchased some clothing for him and are looking for something in the area of entertainment, I would try a book, CD, puzzle, board game (something he can do with his entire family), etc.
Since you don't know the boy personally I would hesitate to purchase him a book or a CD, but maybe you could get him a giftcard for $20 to Wal-Mart or a similar store where he can pick a CD out for himself. If you're wanting to go the book route, then maybe a $20 giftcard for Borders, Books-a-Million or Barnes & Noble.
Not sure if this helps. :)

sorry, but at 13, I dont think he really needs toys. get him some clothes instead and make sure the family has food for the holidays. when my school did adopt a family we didnt buy for kids that age accept for clothing. community care doesnt either.
if you already got him clothes then I think the board game idea is a good one or some Harry Potter books or somehting would be good for him too.

How about a small erector set or a model car/airplane/rocket to assemble (only if it's got all of the stuff with it--pointless if he needs to buy stuff to complete it)

... get him a card. The money isn't what he needs. He needs love.
