As if world politics and U.S. policy were like rooting for the local sports team. Ever occur to them that admitting to and correcting mistakes will make us a stronger nation?

The denial over the events in Iraq are a classic example. A reality check, and acceptance of criticism, instead of flag waving 2 years ago, might have made the difference between success and continued failure in Iraq. Now the hole is dug so deep that it's starting to get filled in. With us at the bottom.

And as for backing the troops. They are simply brave professionals who follow orders. They don't make policy. And just because our troops are somewhere, doesn't mean they were sent there for the right reasons by the policy makers.

I don't care about being loyal, I care about doing what's right. Gang members, mafiosi, and brown shirts are the most loyal. So what?

Because to them, the Big Daddy figures (Chimpy and friends) can do no wrong..even when 9/11 happened while he was reading (and continued to read) My Pet Goat, Katrina happened and hundreds of thousands have been killed in Iraq with no progress and no WMD's...well, Daddy's always right, right? The rest of us think for ourselves and don't put SUV's and the gas they guzzle ahead of our morals. i almost feel sorry for them, but I despise them more than I feel sorry for them. They aren't just destroying our country, their ignorance is destroying the world. Destorying peace. Destroying the environment. They're pigs oinking us all into oblivion.

I don't have a good answer to that. Some are just so brainwashed that the President is doing the right thing that if he told everyone to jump off a cliff, they would. Some do not understand what it really means to be working for the minimum wage and living paycheck to paycheck (or deny that people even do). Some truly believe this president is making us safer, although where the evidence is of that I don't know. Some think the only Torture we have practiced is not allowing prisoners to eat what they want, the truth is we HAVE done grave things in violation of the Geneva conventions. Some think it is OK to alienate our allies when we NEED them to help us win this war on terror. Some think saying "Stay the Course" and "We need to fight the terrorists" means we have a plan. Some think we so-called "liberals" do not want to defeat the terrorists. We do. We just want accountability and want to capture and try the people responsible for 9/11. I am as lost as you are, I'm afraid.

Very well said...it is the blind faith in George Bush by conservatives that has really gotten us into trouble...of course democrats were going to criticize his policies but Republicans, despite the incredibly poor results and the stark reality, refuse to criticize or put pressure on this administration...to the detriment of us all

I can stomach a "legitimate" criticism of the government. The problem is that many of these comments by liberals are not legitimate. I, like you, am not happy with what is going on in Iraq, but Kerry and Clinton both said that getting out now would be the wrong thing to do. The truth is that Bush made the decision he did, with a lot of influence from people that know much more than you or I, on information that was given to him which happened to be wrong. Very unfortunate but true. Not every conservative is crazy just like not every democrat is stupid so lets not generalize...

I agree with you but it goes both ways... Liberals have a hard time just being loyal sometimes.... I know because I Am one.

Sometimes the criticism needs to be turned inward.

What would have made a difference in Iraq is if the liberal media and politicians had let the professionals do their jobs and stop trying to hamstring the military with all the politically correct bovine excrement about treating the Islamic Fascists like the are American citizens! At this rate they will be taking over the world soon!

I don't criticize the us ever! However I don't mind speaking against or pointing out the faults of any body who is in power. This administration has lied to us and many people have bought it hook line and sinker.

I encourage criticism so I can prove to the opposition why I am right and they are wrong.

That's just your world view of conservatives. It has nothing to do with the truth. The fact is we see and own up to things we disagree with. Guess it just whooshes over your head.
