He can make war as Commander in Chief of the military, even though congress is supposed to do so first, veto legislation, appoint judges, grant pardons, make trade agreements, just to name a few.

The president of the United States can: grant pardon to an inmate, veto or approve a bill, law, or ammendment that congress wants to pass, send the national guard to a city where it is needed (which a governor can also do), he is also the leader of our armed forces.
