The easiest way is to get on as an extra. With a bit of research you can find out which casting agency/agencies are in charge of hiring extras, then just submit your photo. Either they'll call you or you can call in when they ask to fill more roles. It's really much easier than people think, and it's not a contest.

often they post ads in local papers, however with one as popular as potter they probably run contests for the extras parts.
