not necessarily,,,, but it really doesnt sound that hopeful, unless they add something before or after it, like "expect to hear from me tomorrow etc"

No, that's a pretty standard reply to every interview.
I think the code for "you're not getting it" is "We will be contacting all successful candidates by phone in the next week" (ie: don't bother calling).
Be sure to send a thank you note for the interviewer, and maybe highlight some of the things you forgot to mention in your interview.
Good luck!

Well, I really enjoy the anime CardCaptor Sakura and I'm sure I could watch that over and over again.... but since I'm taking Gaara with me on the spaceship...um... dark, mysterious, quiet Gaara watching a shoujo anime with magical girls and comedy everywhere..... **eye twitches**.... So I think I would change my choice to Death Note --> but... **twindles fingers** what if watching about death reminds him of his past time!! Oh gosh, heather I have to think of these things! Fine, fine I guess I'll take Mushishi since it's a serene anime with no blood and gore but just a really calm aura... [Edit] heather, it's the end of the world, not word XD [Edit] Oi Sakura needs a nickname™! You think Light can take Pokemon, I bet by the time you guys are half way through he wishes he could write Pika Pika in the Death Note ^^

No " thanks for coming in" is said a lot after interviews. It just means what it means. Thanks for taking time out to come to the interview. It could be seen kind of as a good thing. Don't want to get your hopes up. But maybe the interviewer just found the only person who conducted themselves in a courteous manner and have some experience. But don't get your hopes up. They may be sympathetic saying im sorry, but we have someon who is a lot more experienced. Look at how they say it. "Thank you for coming in." or kinda like they weren't paying attention. " Oh yeah, thanks for coming in." Almost saracastically.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Many people apply for the job and many people are interviews. It is polite to thank everyone that comes to interview for their time.

That's what I say when I interview a looser. Today I interviewed a good candidate and I closed with I'll be getting back with you in a few days.

No, sometimes, with all the applicants, it takes awile for them to make up their mind, so you may be called for a second interview. If you are called for a second interview, then your chances are very good.

Its not a good sign.
I fthey were interested they'd mention how many other are applying, how long it will take to get through them, and what kind of reference checks, background information and other stuff they would need before they might call back.

I have often wondered that myself. The tell tale sign is if you get a pencil for your application, but everybody else gets a pen. The ones in pencil are for reject.
