I was like you I was shy too. 11 is fairly young to start having periods but I guess the kids mature quicker these days. I am guessing that many of your friends have not developed as fast as you and do not have periods yet, So talking to them would be uncomfortable, and they would not be of help anyway. I was not able to talk to my parents either, I don't know about you. Can you give a few more details. Do you have a mother? a sister etc. Has someone said something about periods that has scared you? Everyone does not have pain, problems etc with periods.
have you had a period yet and you are scared to get another one? Do you see a Dr. for checkups, etc.
It's something we women go through. 99% of us never have any problems, except for the inconvenience of it. Sometimes you might have a little cramping, but a hot water bottle, and a Tylenol is usually all it takes to stop them. For the most part you won't even know you are having one, they don't hurt. You should tell whoever it is that looks after you, preferably a female. If there is nobody you can talk to. I would be happy to, I will give you my email address, or We can talk on the phone.
If you get your period and you are alone, don't be scared. Your mum and sister probably have sanitary pads you can use. If they only use tampons, I don't think you should try to use them, if you can't find any just take some tiolet paper, kleenex, paper towel etc, fold it so you have 5 or 6 layers and place it in your panties. if it becomes soaked just flush it and replace it.
make sure to wash yourself when you replace it.

Getting your period can be a scary thing. However, if you learn more about it, then when the time comes, it won't be so bad. Everyone has different periods. Some of the most common worries are: does it hurt? Will other people know I am on my period? Will my mood change?
Periods give some people stomach cramps. Some people do not get them, but many do. Medication like Tylenol or Motrin usually help make the paid go away. Usually, people will not know you are on your period unless you tell them or your pad leaks. To avoid this, make sure you take care of y ourself by checking and changing your pad very often. Sometimes people do have mood changes but that is because of the hormones. You will usually be fine. Just ask your teachers or parents and all will be good.

I was terrified the first time i got my period. I was near a panic attack. Anyways, point being, I was also really shy about talking to people about the whole "period" thing heh. But as you grow older you realise it's actually really normal, and you will probably get to the point really soon where you even start complaining to your friends, you know "gosh, I feel crap. I just got my rag last night" ;)
So dont be scared. you actually get quite used to it after a short while, and its completely normal. I mean, half the world's adult population goes through it every months, so you should really not be afraid. At first you might feel really anxious every time you get it simply because its a scary sight seeing yourself bleed without being able to stop it. But I wouldnt be scared, becuase you will get used to it and it'll become second nature.

When you notice blood in your panties, it will be coming every month after that, whether you are scared or not. But really, it is nothing new, nothing to be scared about. Every woman knows it happens. Ask to purchase tampons that are made of plastic, and you can then take care of yourself. There are packages of tampons at every grocery or drug stores. You will need almost a full package of 10 to last you 3+ days, most likely 5 days. Cheer up. It gets to be a routine that will be with you until you are in your 40's.

Well, the best thing to do is to talk to your mom. If you're scared/shy, then maybe you could write her a note, and give it to her? Just say in it that you know you are growing up and will get your period sometime soon, and that you need to know some information about it, but that you feel shy.
Ask yourself, "what is the worst thing that could happen if I ask Mom about periods?". Well...she could refuse to talk to you about it, I suppose, but I really doubt she would do that! Probably the worst thing that will happen is that you will feel scared and nervous. If you let her know you're nervous, she will understand, I'm sure.
If you really can't talk to your mom, you could try talking to your sister? Or your friends who have already had their period?
You should be prepared for when your period starts by carrying a pad with you in your bookbag or purse. You could buy some yourself, or you could take one of your sister's. That might be a good way to start talking to her about it, even. Just ask if you could take one of her pads to keep in your bookbag in case your period starts at school. You could ask her any other questions you have then too. You could also start the conversation with your mom that way too, ask her what happens if your period starts and you're at school or something?
I know it feels really embarrassing to talk about, but there's no reason to be embarrassed about it. Girls who have already started their periods will probably be less embarrassed about it, and would be more willing to talk to you about it than you think, I bet.
Your next option would be the school nurse. Just tell her that you are scared about getting your first period and you need some information. She might have a brochure you can look at, or she might just have a little chat with you and tell you what you need to know. You could also ask your doctor about it the next time you go in for a checkup, but you might feel more embarrassed with your doctor if it's a guy.
If you're at school and get your period, and you don't have a pad with you, or if you're scared or anything, just go see the nurse. She'll help you out, she'll give you a pad and answer any questions.
When you get your first period, it won't be a ton of blood or anything. It'll be just some, and you might notice it after you go to the bathroom. When I got my first period (when I was 11), I had a weird stomach ache the night before. I didn't know what it was, but the next day, when wiped after using the bathroom, I noticed some blood (the blood might be red or pink or brownish even, that's normal).
If all else fails, you can visit some of the following websites. There's no reason for you to be scared. Once you know more about growing up and everything, you'll feel better!

Here are some sites where you can request a sample of their pads, but you probably need your mom to request it for you, since you're under 13:

Don't worry so much! :) It'll be just fine. Just take some deep breaths and ask your mom about it, or at least look at some of those websites so you can learn more, so you won't be as scared.

Don't be afraid to get your period. It is completely natural and is not severely painful. A few cramps here and there but for me I don't usually get any cramps just a headache for a day or so sometimes. Its not a big deal or that bad. Much worse things. Read online about it or get a book to explain it all.
