They possibly had large teeth, possibly pointy ears. I think they may have lived under the earth. Caves? I can barely remember this book from my childhood. Any help is appreciated!

This book was all about these monsters. I think they were cave dwellers, they had pointy teeth. Thanks for the help, but it's not Where the Wild Things are.

Greetings:
I will let you know as soon as I text my son.
Warren Shaffer, MD.
just talked to my son: here are some possiblties:
1. Big Ugly Monster and the little stone rabbit
2. Dr. Who and the Cave Monsters
3. Here Be Monsters (has trolls, monsters in caves)..This may be it!!!!!
4. The Cave Monster.
5. Where The Wild Things Are
I hope it is one of the above. Now you got me wondering. I will be up all night thinking about this now!!!! Damn.
Let me know what it is if you find out.
Warren.

Maurice Sendak wrote a wonderful children's book called, Where the Wild Things Are...a boy sent to his room, dreams of becoming king of an island of "wild things". The creatures you describe sound like those in described in that book .

I apologize that no one bothered to read the rest of your question. I wish I had an answer for you, but of course all I can think of is the one that you said it's not. The Brothers Grimm collection is the only other one that I can think of. Mom used to read some little horrifying tweek story to my little 6 yr old mind every night at one point. Couldn't sleep right for years. Anyway hope you find it!
