One of the more notable conflicts is whether we should interfere with another person's intelligence, even if you have the best of intentions. As you already know, it started to wear off and the protagonist was no longer as smart as he used to be.

Well, since I read the story and remember it, there are a few external conflicts.
1.) the conflict of his teacher as she struggles with Charlies loss of his abilities and her romantic feelings for him
2.) Charlie's boss who all of a sudden has a supersmart employee that before was just a simple minded person.
Those are the only external conflicts I can think of right now. It was a really long time ago when I read the story.

I read that book in 6th grade, all i remember was we had to do an asignment for it and i made a box wit a fake mouse and flowers on it. I got an a. lol. But i did take the effort to find a link for ya!

The external conflicts are his difficulties with the other factory workers.

-Charlie's brain going back to the way it used to be (i.e. Charlie becoming stupid again)
-The relationship between Charlie and that woman (I forget her name) fading very quickly
