Can anyone name 1 president that came from the average middle American family that didn't already have political ties?

Johnson's father had served five terms in the Texas legislature and was a close friend to one of Texas's rising political figures, Congressman Sam Rayburn.
So no that counts him out!

He was affiliated with the Free Masons...but never became one.

Reagan, Clinton, Carter, Truman, Hoover, Coolidge, Harding, Wilson, Taft, Eisenhower, Ford. Oh, and Nixon. None of these guys had previous family ties to major politics. They were all self-made.
