My kids do at school and there is very few blacks in the school. We also do fun stuff at home here with black history. The black people came up with so many new and cool things that we would never be able to live with out! We even have a party at the end of the month with cake and all and we share what we learned this month its so much fun!

At one time I was totally obsessed with black history that I got angry at the teacher who was teaching "regular history" and walked out of the class. It was only later when I realized that maybe it should not be a month set aside for black history but a constant reminder so that one day finally people will look at a black person and have the same reaction as they do when they look a white or anyother person. Until racism is totally erased out of the minds of people and not taught to the children of any kind of people will there be peace and harmony.

it disappoints me to realize that no matter how hard people try to bridge the gap between cultures, there will always be some morons that believe that they are the superior race, no one is better than anyone else, if two men of two different ethnicities were to hurt one another, and they were both to be cut open, wouldn't the color of their blood both be red, why should color make such a big difference in any situation, no one is better than any one else, if you can prove that you are then power to you, but if you have the same pains as everyone else, you are no better than the people living watts or in beverly hills, money makes absolutely no difference, you can buy everything you've ever wanted, but you will never find happiness. it is sad to see that only terror and actions like those that occured on 9/11 are the only things that bring people together.

i'm not a racist by any means, but i believe that america is the melting pot. our country is based on immigration-----but legal immigration---- every ethnicity should should have the right to celebrate their heritage. But i believe that if you want the right to celebrate your heritage there should be some stipulation. like for one your celebration has to involve an american flag and for two don't infringe your celebration on others. There are colleges in boston that are all for this, they've actually taken action by giving an allwhite scholarship, not for racist reasons but to show that there should be equality, blacks get a scholarship, mexicans get a scholarship, etc..... hence forth don't get rid of black history month but add white history and mexican history, etc.... and also add patriotic history.

simple, because the broad majority of US history books, especially the ones for high school and elementary years are euro-centric white history.
the whole BHM thing is really problematic for a whole ton of reasons, like many of those already stated, but the underlying need for BHM is still there.
the broad majority of history that is taught is white-centric. look at your highschoolers' history book and tell me that i'm wrong. until we have an integrated history curriculum, the need for ___ history months will remain.
and bs if anyone says that blacks didn't contribute to American history enough to be worth being put in the book.

White histoy is celebrated every single day from kindergarden through college and whites don't seem to think it. And why should they when they are the majority. It's all about them. I think Black, Asian, Indian etc...history should all be celebrated as American history. We are all Americans and I am definitely against racism as well.

No problem with the racist stuff. It's for black citizens, as a white citizen, I don't think about it and don't care about it personally and have no problem with the black population celebrating it. I don't celebrate Chinese New Year or Ramadan or Hanukkah either.

You're apparently missing the point of BHM. For a long time American history was very euro-centric, meaning the only people we learned about in school were white. Focusing on the contributions of African Americans for a month is an attempt to fill in the gaps.

So the black oops I mean the African-American population can keep themselves apart from everyone else, although they say they want segregation to end. We will continue to celebrate the great people of our history no matter what race, nationality or ethnicity they are or were.
Love sees no color!!!
Amazing we are the melting pot but we must have started with oil and water!!!!

Why not?
African Americans have contributed so much to this society I dont see why we cant celebrate that contribution.
Also, the past is not the past....the fact that we are actually here bears that fact out.
