Decide based on the candidates, register independent or register whichever party you want to vote in the primary for. It sounds like you are a moderate republican or conservative democrat, so no easy answer.

I suggest you do NOT have an abortion, and that you continue to honor the rights of others -- the gays and the morose. Check out the details of registration in your state and then register for the party that permits you the most options for the primary election. In California it may be that if you register as Green, Libertarian or Peace and Freedom that you can only vote for candidates in those parties. If you register as Independent or "declines to state" you may be able to vote for candidates in other parties. Don't paint yourself into a corner.

You could be a pro-life Democrat or a liberal Republican. My friend is pro-life but she supports gay rights and even gay marriage. She leans to the Democrats's side more than Republicans. Think about your other issues (economy, environment, tax cuts, gun control, Iraq, stem cell research, and illegal immigration) find which party has more of your beliefs.

You don't have to vote for a "party." You have to research the candidates' positions on the issues. You won't find too many who agree with your two points as you've stated them. And there are LOTS of other issues to think about.

Indeed, my recommendation is to not vote at all. I tried the voting thing for 14 years and I finally became fed up with the system. For one thing, you say you oppose abortion. Too bad, because the Supreme Court won't allow you to ban abortion. So every vote you cast which is intended to create a ban on abortion will be shot down by the judges.

are you talking about the next election that's like a year from now, unless you mean a primary.
well whatever don't pick your party based on those issues alone. if you do you can be screwed on other issues.
I'll tell you something now the party you pick will disappoint you at some point.

The Republicans have abortions and just tell everyone that they are opposed to them and they hate gay people, and everyone else who does not believe exactly as they do.

The Democrats stand up for all Americans and protect a woman's right to choose whether or not to have an abortion and protect the rights of gay people, and everyone else for that matter.

Simple choice...Democrats

No matter what party you decide to choose, you will never agree with everything that they are for or against. You need to way out the differences and then choose.

Good luck.

Welcome to the adult world where no matter who you vote for you lose. There is no perfect party or perfect candidate who will always support your views and opinions you can only go with your conscience and pick the least damaging person who most closely reflects your values. That is why i am an independent voter my responsibility is to America not a political organization.

those two issues are moral issues and not political issues. They are used as "wedge issues" by politicians to excite their base. Forget those two issues. Look at all the other issues facing this country. Do your research and vote accordingly. Good Luck.
