Im freshly 17 and my fiancee is reaching 21. If I were to get pregnant, what are the legal charges? I already got most answers back saying the government wouldn't do anything, it's the parents I would have to worry about. Now, could an elder sibling of mine press charges, or is it just the parents?

don't get married at 17 what is the rush...you have your whole life ahead of you. breathe. don't rush to be a grown up. have fun and be the kid you are. if you are married your parents can't press any charges what so ever. i don't want to support your kids if you have to go on welfare later. think about this before you ruin the rest of your life.

Hun, it's your choice and no one elses I know, but why would you want to get married so young? =*( I mean don't get me wrong, im 21 turning 22 and I am freshly married with my first on the way, but doll I think you should wait to have a baby if you are worrying about someone pressing charges on your fiancee due to the fact you are so young. However, if you legally marry somewhere and then get pregnant, I don't believe anything can be done to your hubby. From what you have asked though, I take it your family doesn't really approve, think about this first.. you have your whole life ahead of you and 17 is just a young teenage girl, you don't need to be having children. Either way, good luck with whatever it is you may decide. = )

Just thought I would tell you I dont know what state you are in but I have seen in Idaho the state press charges. For both an over age with an under age and 2 underage. When I was 17 only 6 years ago 2 of my friends got their parents permission to marry beacuse the state was pressing charges on both of them because under the age of 18 you can not consent to sex. That is Idaho though

Most states it is a difference bigger than 4 years or if a party is under 16. You'll be fine. No cop or anyone is going to mess with you. I was 17 and he was 22, we did fine, had no problems, social services helped us with everything, and Now we are married and expecting our second child. Heres the thing, parents cant do much without the governemtn, and they will drag their feet, so by the time the get around to pressing charges on your behalf, you will be 18 and will have the final say. Good luck, and no worries.

Depends on where you live. In some states 17 is considered an adult and in other states it's 18. Don't think an older sibling could press charges unless they are your legal guardian.

The best thing to do is take whatever precautions are necessary so you don't get pregnant until you are physcially and emotionally ready to start a family.

Only the parents can do that. If the parents are really concerned and mad that their daughter is dating an older man, then something could be done about pressing charges. But dont worry because your already almost 18 and its not such a big deal.

oh man, i don't think you should wait TEN years to have a child cuz then your kids will have less time with you and it's saddening/scary.
but uh...don't worry about the government. why would they waste their time punishing you because you aren't 18 yet? it's only a problem if it was not consensual. if you are over 16 it's fine.
it's the parents you have to worry about. or whoever is your legal guardian. would they press charges against you though? would they be that upset that they would take it to the legal system rather than just confront you and talk to you?
you should think about waiting one tiny little year though.

There are several charges that could be brought against your fiance,it depends on the prosecutor.
Start with statutory rape, sexual assault, sex with a minor.
Your brother could file charges if he is over 18,so can anyone else who knows you are having sex with him.
If your parents know you are having sex, charges against them could also be filed.
Your parents are responsible for you and your actions until you are 18.

If you aren't already pregnant, don't worry about what could happen if you were to become pregnant but rather focus your attention on NOT getting pregnant at this time. I went to school with several girls like you in high school...they had their babies before their diploma, married right after high school and divorced before they were 21...that's really cool.

depend where you live age of consent generally is 16. they could say it happened before 16 but it rarely sticks unless you press charges.
dont worry about it they will go on your statement if you gave consent then what i the problem?

btw my mum threatened this when she found condoms in my bag. i talked it through with her and she understood i was responsable to deal with sex.
