Because the owner is from the Bible Belt and he wants to give his employees a chance to go to church. Or not. At least that's what it said on the wall of the Chick-Fil-A I was at on Saturday.
It's cool for the employees, because they get one weekend day off. Not so cool if you were craving a chicken sammich and waffle fries with a large lemonade.

The owners are religious, and they give their employees that day off to worship and spend time with family. It's not a "mall" thing, because not ALL Chic Fil As are in malls. We have them as stand alone stores here and THEY are closed on Sundays as well. And why wouldn't the mall ones be open on Sundays when THE MALL is open on Sundays, and as far as I have EVER seen, the mall is NOT slow on Sunday. It is based on religion.

The owners are Christians who choose to remain closed on Sundays to allow their employees to go to church if they want to.
