That was his classic, Fear and Loathin Las Vegas. His story about Kentucky Derby Day is also a classic and his staying at the Watergate Hotel in Washington D.C. is also well-known. You could also look at back issues of Rolling Stone magazine where he was a national political reporter and used his gonzo journalism style to write many articles for that magazine. Also his book "Hells Angels" about the motorcycle gang is well known piece of literature. He was a gifted writer with one too many problems.

I recommed "Hell's Angels" "The Great Shark Hunt" "Fear and Loathing in America" and "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail" I LOVE Hunter S. Thompson. He's my favorite author. =)
