Which brand of writing pencils have the best non-scratchy erasers, soft #2 lead, and sharpens well? Some pencils I get are too light when you write with them, and sometimes the lead always breaks when I sharpen them, and the erasers are sometimes stiff and make orange streaks on my paper.

your best bet is to go to a art supply store an buy them there, i used to only use #2 pencils from walmart or wherever but i had the same probelms with led breaking an such, truth is there just not ment for more then writeing most the time, when you use a #2 for multiple shadeing you have to use presure , sometimes lots for deep shades, an usual no#2s just arent up for the job, ever since i went to the art store an bought an HB ( thats the shade no#2's are in the art pencils) i had no problems. i also bought a 9B which is the darkest of the graphite for my deepest shades believe me its worth it because it will get darker then HB will ever get with like no effort. thats all i use HB and 9B, and i preferr faber castell. also buy an eraser stick, they come in white an are soft an wont leave marks on the paper i know it seems like more work to use 2 utensils but you get fast at it an i dont even notice it anymore, i can even hold both at the same time no problem

I personally like TOMBOW, which is a Japanese brand. But I think the best way to find your ideal brand is to try out some pencils when you get a chance to visit a art store because everybody has a different preface. It's all about the feel of the pencil in your hand on paper, not the brand. Good luck of finding a brand.

They just don't make good pencils any more, the point breaks off with the slightess pressure, #2's are not as dark, and won't show with light touch. They are not made from cedar wood in a lot of cases.
