What is your favourite National Anthem? Although I am English I must admit the American National Anthem is my favourite as it is sung about it's flag and the people in it rather than just one person as ours is. Any preferences?

My anthem from america is the best that I have heard so far.The last part when the say " the land of the free and the home of the brave". Always brings tears to my eyes because their's so many military people. Out their that have fought to be the free and they are the brave to fight for our freedom.I will always salute the flag no matter if im no longer in the Army or not.

The British one is definitely one of the worst (musically). I liked the OLD Russian one and also have a soft spot for the Turkish one (although the words don't fit the music).
BTW - I was at a service recently for Remembrance Sunday at which the (British) national anthem was played. Nobody sang along (although the words were printed in the order of service). I think we were embarrassed by it??!!
Did you know that you can hear different anthems on wikipedia?

I personally like the Marselleise of France and the National Anthem of Guatemala. Both are masterpieces of art (because of its lyrics).
Both anthems are really long (the guatemalan national anthem is sung in around 10 minutes) and its impressive how it all rhymes (was made by a poet).
Both national anthems are songs of war and triumph and hope.

God Save the Queen is horrible and depressing. We need a new one that's a bit more uplifting. I agree...we shouldn't have an anthem about a person, but about our country.
I don't like Star Spangled Banner either. Gives me the creeps whenever I hear it.
Best ones are Italian and French, especially if they are being sung by a big crowd.

I don't like any of the ones I know (S. Korea, England, Germany, United States, Canada). I especially hate the American national anthem mainly because of the people who sing it. It's one of those songs that can be sung as slow as possible.

I like the Jamaican national anthem. It is cool. Personally I prefer God Save the Queen to the USA's anthem (although the version on Borat is good).

I'm american, and I love our anthem. the only thing I don't really like about it is that the range of notes is very broad. Most americans can't sing it. They start singing it way too high and end up all squeaky when they get to "and the rocket's red glare.."
