Fold a paper into thirds. In the first column, write the word. In the second, write out the definition. In the third, draw a simple example of the word illustrating its meaning.
If you need more, fold the paper into four columns, do the above three steps, then add a sentence using your term in the fourth.

You're right, flash cards are a waste of time. You need results. Come with weird ways to remember the words. Use anything strange or crazy that you can. Study for an hour, take a fifteen minute break and repeat. This will allow you to learn all the words without undue suffering. Good luck!

find key words in the definition instead of learning the whole definition. My daughter had this problem also and this seemed to help her. Here is an example, one of her words was law the definition is a rule that everyone must follow. The keyword is rule. Hope you understand and this works!

As annoying as it is making flash cards, its usually the most effective. They dont always have to be tangible ones though (aka no cutting up paper or using notecards). Theres a site called Flash Card Machine that can make them for you pretty quickly.
Other obvious ways to study would be reviewin them and having someone quiz you or make a fake quiz for you.

You can use them in sentences in your head, to remember the general meaning. Or remember a funny or another memorable way to use them in a sentence or a joke. If you just try to remember the words and not the actual meaning of the definition, you won't get very far.

There is only one way for me: FLASHCARDS! its worth it, believe me. It wont take that long.
Learn about 2 or 3, be able to recite them, learn another 2 or 3, and memorize them untill you can recite them, then add another 2 or three, memorize them, etc until you have them all memorized.

You can start by looking at your words more often. If that doesn`t work then you can say the word and then try and say its definition.

Study. Write them down. As often as necessary.
There's no quick fix here - once you know them (by studying) you'll never forget them.
