The kind that were possibly sinned against as children. Or, grew up with domestic violence, and were taught that beating a woman is the answer to communication problems, and other personal issues. There is no excuse for a man to abuse a woman, but it happens all the time, and across all cultures. I had brothers that witnessed our mother being beaten for years. They learned to hit as well, and my oldest brother hit the wrong woman one day, and he was stabbed to death at the age of 27. Women who allow their children to live with domestic violence only keep the cycle of abuse alive. Husbands that hit or abuse their wives don't usually fight other men. A part of them is cowardly, so they take their frustrations out on the weaker vessels, women and children. Violence is a learned behavior. Women will do well to get to know a man as a friend before becoming involved. And men should get to know women as well. Women can be abusive as well.

I asked this question for years since I was married to a man that tried to kill me on several occassions. I finally got out of it with help from authorities, and he kept stalking and beating me more, but finally it ended. I blamed myself for setting him off, and maybe I should have cooked or cleaned better. Maybe if the kids were not crying so much. But let me tell you.....I remarried years later, and now I know the answer............
Insecure men. It is their problem. They think that if they beat you and control you, that you will not leave out of fear. They mistake the words of the Bible, I was told all of the time that it was written that women should obey their husbands, and til death do you part. That was told to me everyday......the only way to leave him was by me dying. But.....a man(usually twice the wives size) usually is not all that tough. When confronted by a man, they will usually tuck and run, I saw that FIRST HAND!!! That was funny!! But anyways, I was lucky, I have found what true love really is, and I am with a man that would never raise one hand to me. I do not fear him....as a matter of fact, he tells everyone he fears me!! haha!! that is a joke, there is no abuse in my marriage, he just says I am a mean little woman!! (But with him, I can get angry at him, and know that he will not beat me!!) I like that!

Usually really bad ones. Unfortunately, sometimes good, loving people with anger issues loose control. If you are in a situation, determine which is the case and act accordingly. Don't do NOTHING. The majority of the time, the best thing to do is get out. Most domestic violence only gets worse.

The kind who saw a lot of domestic abuse in his home as a kid. That's also the kind of woman who stays and puts up with it — she was probably abused by her father at a young age, and grew up to believe that it was normal.
