When my truck idles, it makes a real igh pitched screeching noise. It sounds like it's coming from the alternator, but could it be coming from anoher pulley?

odds are your belts are just bad...they should be changed at least every 4 yrs. One way to check since you say it is at an idle...just park it and start the engine...open the hood and look and listen. you should be able to see a loose belt flopping around...and you should also be able to hear where the squeal is coming from.

Good luck

Alternater can make a high pitched noise when it is in a full charge mode. Some times a bad connection between battery and alternater will give the same effect. But don';t rule out another pulley noise. If your's has a belt tensioner [ as you would see on a one belt system ] thoose bearings really get a work out. Take it to a garage and ask someone that dose it for a living. You never know, you find a mechanic you like.

Pully I would say, I just blew my 6th alternator in my jeep and the only time it should make a screeching noise is when you first turn the key.Check your serpentine belt i changes it on my ford ranger and the noise stoped.

Most likely the fan-belt. This is a very common "screeching noise."

Could be coming from the idler pulley.
Chrysler and chev had problems with them.
Whatever you do, dont put any sort of lube or dressing on the serpentine belt. Its not good for them.

simple, take peice of hose stick one end in your ear, and move it around to diferent pulleys. that will get you closer. then take a screw driver or ext. and stick in the end of it. touch it to different things"that arent moving!"" you can hear the smalest noises then.
