I have a small refrigerator. Some unpleasant things have gone bad in it, and since then, I've emptied it out, washed it with antibacterial soap, sprayed it with odor neutralizer, covered it in baking powder, let it air for days, and repeated. It still smelled funny, but I plugged it in and put food in it anyway. Now it smells REALLY bad- a putrid cloud of stench escapes whenever I open the door- even though I've put in baking powder and taken out any food that looks questionable.

What can be done to make it stop smelling bad?

Baking soda, baking powder, whichever it is, I used the stuff that comes in a yellow box made by Arm & Hammer. It said on the box it was good for refrigerators, so I know I got the right stuff!

Try looking for something that has gone bad in it. Then since you already cleaned it you should make sure it is working properly making sure there are no liquids leaking anywhere, on the floor or inside somewhere. And you can also try Arm and Hammer Fridge-n-Freezer baking soda. If none of that works you should just get a new fridge.

Are you sure you have not got a coolent leak somewhere, that stuff smells bad. Is your refrigerater as cold as it should be. If you feel it is working okay. Wash it out again, rinse with slean water & vinegar. It is baking soda you put in a fridge not Baking powder they are very different. Open a fresh box & put it in there it should absorb the oders. Good Luck!

Check under the frig and see if there is a tray under there that has collected something from the disastor. Some refrigerators have a drip tube that empties onto a tray that evaporates from the heat and air under the unit. Also, if there is a drain in the bottom, make sure you've gotten down into it -- sometimes there's a little button/knob that catches debris.

I agree, baking soda is the best. They have a new product out there, the baking soda box sticks to the side of the fridge, and it has pull out replacements.

Get all the food out, clean it with baking soda or something similar (yes, again...), and LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN FOR ABOUT 1 WEEK, this will remove all bad smells.

clean it again with baking soda and water, then place a open box of baking soda in it. for a very quick pleasant odor, put vanilla extract in a open container, vanilla is a natural odor absober.
good luck!

I had the same problem just last week and was told to use a 50/50 mix of bleach and water to scrub everything down. It worked like a charm!!! Also -- I have been told the coffee beans thing will work just as well.

You can put charcoal at the bottom of your fridge. It'll absorb and neutralises the stench. It works for car boots, shoe cabinets.. or any enclosed space.

You must have something that is trapped in the crevises or something, because you have done all the right things. Is there parts you can remove and check to see if food or drink has seeped in? Anywho.., good luck!!
