YES!
My first husband was one, (he died 46 years ago), and I am a bit out of practice myself, being somewhat over 60.

The "sport" form of ninjitsu is taught in this country; but; the "original" form is still taught IF you know where to look, and it IS a deadly form.
Survival of the "martial" training is graduation!!
HOWEVER, the "martial" training is only a very SMALL part of the entire cultural training involved. It is almost a complete "lifestyle" of its own, and it is considered better to avoid a fight if possible. (This does NOT mean running away, however!!)

(It was said that you were NOT supposed to be discovered on an "assignment", and IF discovered only you survived the encounter; or you didn't do it right!)

hahaha, yes ninjas WERE real. Some people still practice Ninjitsu (which is the Ninja martial art and overall training), but you couldn't really say there are still ninjas around.

But they're just as real as wooly mammoths or T-Rex, they're gone now but they were here once.

From my understanding: Ninjas used to be a real job in the past -- being paid to protect other ppl or government agencies (kinda similar to security guards today), and actually they are not as "supernatural" as they seemed on TV, in real life they actually have the skills to use special gadgets and techniques to attack, to protect other ppl or innocents, and to hide and avoid being attacked.

Nowadays, they only exixts as demonstrators in certain museums or cultural villages in Japan.
