Of course all kids want respect, to be treated fairly. Some actually get bored with learning, because they learn to fast. So with them you have to challenge them, and let them open their minds to you, and you might actually be impressed by them. With the other kids though that get bored easily, do your best to show them different ways that can make learning fun. Such as the kids in class who like to be the center of attention and have all of the power, teach them to search for things that can be interesting and and that everyone would be awed by. Mostly they want interaction, and yes sometimes it helps the kids who are actually quite brilliant, but shy if you call them out in front of everyone and encourage them because it helps them come out of their shell. Those kids will actually be noticed a lot more when you do that. Well I could go on but I only have so much time because I'm in the military and only get 30 minutes.

I've found that students like it if you stretch them- they might not like it at the time, but afterwards they are really pleased ... especially when they pass their exams because they were pushed.

They don't want an embarrassing 'wannabe trendy' teacher- they can handle the fact you're much older than them (even if some teachers can't)!

Fairness. Children have a very strong sense of what's fair. Also discipline, knowing the rules makes life easier. A sense of fun always helps.

They want to learn and master our creator's universal gifts of life vital for their own survival and advancement of themselves not ghost stories from ancestor's custom with skills and ghostly modern history of failures and horrors of a different ancestors custom in ghostly kitchen's dialect from the graveyards in planet of apes.
What can the dead do when those poor kids is living human kind living in misery at loss with the missing x-files in planet of apes.
Wonder whose great dreams was that in planet of apes?

well my 5 year old daughter wants someone who's got time to listen to her and is interested, and someone who is kind and polite.
I want someone who actually seems to like children, who has the time of day for her, is freshly trained in the newest methods of teaching/delivery, is approachable and friendly.
hope this gives you a few more ideas.. good luck with your presentation!

When I was a kid I always learned best from teachers who were fun but still held authority.

Most children want to be noticed and appreciated . Some try to get it by working hard , some by trying to please the teacher , and some by misbehaving or acting the clown . Depends on the pupil .
