I don't think immigrants are causing the crime spree we're seeing in the U.S. these days...I think we're just using them as skape goats as we need someone else to blame for our problems.

Maybe some crime is caused by immigrants but not the majority of it. Immigrants know they are targeted and most try their best to stay out of the lime light and keep a low profile. I don't think immigrants, legal or otherwise, would try to draw attention to themselves...unlike the regular citizens of this country who scream for attention and media coverage.

I think the paranoia concerning immigrants in this country is another sign that America is becoming a very xenophobic nation...much like Germany was in the 1930's. "Anyone who looks different from me, must be doing something wrong!"

Good Question, In Australia immigrants just about run the crime. Middle East and Asians. If it wasn't for our racist Government they should print the figures by ethnic groups. So much for multiracism

"So, I will stand guard with my flashlight, spotting illegals and calling authorities. I will stand guard at the border with the other Minutemen, many of whom are also grandparents who have lived long enough to be truly alarmed at the fact that illegals continue to run in, by the millions, totally overwhelming our social services, penal system and schools."...Anyone who does not believe our social services, penal system and schools are overwhelmed needs to get out more, and at the very least needs to read the latest Congressional Budget Office report on the Impact of Immigration. The fact is that what illegal immigrants contribute to the economy in no way equals what they pull from it in social services. Many of my friends believe our economy depends on undocumented workers. But, consider this: If you hire people to paint in your kitchen, it does not follow that once they are in your house, you must consider them members of your family with all rights of inheritance. Hired to work means hired to work. That is fair.
And then there is the fact that we are at war with people who dress like civilians, sneak around and murder Americans. They enter our country largely unchallenged, with the intent of killing your family and mine. Add to this the drug runners who each carry 50-75 pounds of cocaine or heroin -- in order to ruin our children's lives. For these reasons I became a Minuteman."(1)
1 ...the results of the 2000 Census and found a total foreign-born population of 30.1 million. To this figure one needs to add the 600,000 immigrants living in what the Census Bureau refers to as group quarters, such as prisons and nursing homes. Most of these individuals are not included the CPS because the survey is designed primarily to capture persons in the work force. In 1990 there were 489,000 immigrants living in group quarters, and that number has increased by at least 100,000 over the last 10 years. 2 These figures are for births to all foreign-born women, including those who arrived prior to 1990. In the past I have estimated that there were 6.4 million births to immigrant women in the 1990s. This estimate was of children born in the United States to immigrant women during the 1990s and were still living in the United States at the time of the 2000 Census. I have adjusted upward my pervious estimate of 6.4 million based on the results of the re-weighted Current Population Survey. (2)
