If you have before and after pictures to prove that you did not damage the apartment, your not behind in rent and have no outstanding bills, then you should get your security deposit back. Make sure your move in and move out walk through check list is filled out. Give back the keys ASAP and give a new address within days of moving out.
But landlords can make anything up to keep your security deposit. The only time I got my security deposit back was when I rented from a company and not an individual.
The landlord will have to send you a detailed list of why they are keeping part or all of your securit deposit. You then need to respond back. If that doesn't get your money, then take the landlord to court.

Check your lease and read the fine print. Before you leave and after you clean the place, call your landloard and have them do a walk through of the place.
