I was on one on the radio about six months ago. I won and got a cool book as a prize. I'm old now, but always wanted to be in a real spelling bee, since I'm an excellent speller.

My grade school teachers used spelling bees to encourage us to study our sight and vocabulary words. Once a week, before our test, our teacher would have us line up in front of the chalk board. Going down the line she would call off words from our sight word/ vocabulary list - repeating those words that the student before missed. The last student standing got to pick a prize from our teacher's treasure chest (small toys or candy). I do not recall having ever won one of these spelling bees, but I do remember that I enjoyed them a lot and missed them when they stopped.

Yes.
I won the spelling bee at my school, and came very close to advancing to the state level. I misspelled "mercantilism" because the person saying it mispronounced it.
I found the spelling bees to be extremely competitive and stressful, and I did not especially like them.

Yes, I was in a spelling bee in 4th grade. I won a violet crumble bar.

ya i was in 4 spelling bee's in middle school. They sre really easy i suggest a good nights slee breakfast and just relax... I won 2 of then and came in 3rd the other 2

Yes, I was in a spelling bee in the 4th grade. I came in 6th place out of 62.

Yes, I was in a spelling bee. It was in 6th grade. I came out with the blue "Excellent" Ribbon.
They gave me a list to help me study.

I was in my last spelling bee about 45 years ago, and was out in the 2nd round for misspelling the word buffalo. I was happy to be out of it.

I was in one in 5th grade and I liked it because I was in the spotlight!!
I have never won! I got 'out' on the word doesn't!

yeah i've been in them since first grade. i'm now in eighth and i've won all of them so far. they are hard to win so study, get a good nights sleep, and eat breakfast!
