I think it's possible that a woman could be elected President. We've had female Senators, female Governors, females on the Supreme Court, females of high rank in the Cabinet (Attorney Generals, Secretaries of State), and we'll soon have a female Speaker of the House.

The real question isn't whether we're ready to elect a woman as President - it's whether we're ready to elect a woman who's last name is "Clinton" (or "Rodham" if you prefer) as President. That's a tricker question.

I think when a woman shows she can be the most powerful person in the world and could make the tough decisions that are needed, than yes. There are not many Margarette Thacher's to go around.

Condi Rice is the closest I have seen to the ol Iron Lady.

Not quite yet, still a lot of the WWII generation and some just after them would not be open to it. But we're getting closer. One problem is that we don't have a history of women in leadership, for high office especially, whereas the British have had queens, for example.

Honestly no, the government still practices segregation. Think about it, if I was involved at a hiring company, and I had a employee come in, not only could I get sued for asking his sexual orientation but also for not hiring him because of it. Yet in most states (if not all), it is illegal for gay couples to marry.

Also, women do not have to fear about being prosecuted for not signing up for selective service, something that every male 18 and over must do (unless medically not able to).
