I just got mine (first time) today, and this cramps are awful. When I'm not on Aleve, it feels like I'm in LABOR! The first hour I had it in I thought I was going to die, really. I was in so much pain. I called the nurse and she said it's normal to feel this way right after it's placed. Some women don't feel anything at all, and others equate it to labor pain.

I took 800mg of Motrin and that helped a bit, then I took an Aleve 3 hours later. It's been 4 hours since the Aleve and things are tolerable, but I can feel the cramps starting to come back.

How long did you have this awful cramping right after you had the IUD placed? Does it hurt like this off and on for the first 3 or 6 months... or is this dibilitating pain just a temporary thing? I hate taking medicine and hope I don't have to be constantly taking pain/anti-inflamitory stuff for much longer.

Thank you so much for your insight.

I would give it 24 hrs. you can alternate every 4 hrs between ibuprofen and Tylenol to help with the pain. I really had no pain and didn't need any medication. I have a high tolerance for pain I had my all wisdom teeth removed and ate stake that day and didn't use pain killers lol so everyone is different. But it should take 24 hrs and it will decline

when i got mine it only hurted when it was placed. afterwards there was no pain. but everyone has a different reaction to a foreign object. anyways if the pain continues maybe you should go get checked cuz maybe your body can't tolerate it. if you can't stand the pain any longer you might want to check out the e.r. Good Luck!!
