Although they can come in through open doors, etc, the most common route is by fruit. If the eggs of the fruit fly are on fruit when it enters the home, they will soon hatch, become larvae and eventually adult fruit flies. The best prevention is to promptly discard any fruit that is becoming too soft. Other info at link site.

It is disgusting, but they lay eggs on fruit, when your fruit sits for a certain period of time, the eggs hatch, with nice slightly rotted food for the flies to start out eating. I had a few episodes of them last summer. Usually once I get rid of an older bananna they were gone almost immediately, but a few times they kept hanging around. If you can't figure out the source, you could have something yucky under your fridge or a cabinet.

From fruit and veg from the store. They lay eggs in the skins of fruit and veggies (like on the skins of bananas, and in the flaky skin on onions, the green stems on tomatoes, etc.) and after a while, they hatch in your house, where they lay more eggs.

So chop off any unnecessary bits of the fruit or veg at the store and wash stuff as soon as you get home.

god only knows. i know how to get rid of them though. take a piece of fruit cut...such as a slice of lemon, apple or something like that and cover it tightly with saran wrap. then punch holes in the saran wrap with a toothpick. leave overnight. for some reason, the flies can go in but can't get out. i use this all the time. try it!

Quite often they will jimmy open a window. Some will pay a spider to enter through the chimney and unlatch the door from inside. A few have learned to pick locks. Most commonly, they simply kick in the door and walk in.

They come in on bananas and overripe fruit in the form of eggs, and hatch undetected until they are able to fly.

those are also referred to as fungus gnats. bypass to a nursery and purchase numerous sticky yellow strips and positioned all of them over your living house status up. once you've plants, positioned them contained in the planter. or you may purchase sticks and yellow cloth and upload adhesive to them. I absolutely have those pests in my greenhouse and interior my living house. And convinced, they love purple wine, and that i need to guard any glass of wine with a paper towel. the colour yellow is a huge charm for them, too.
