How old is your baby? An infant of course cannot rub it's ears yet. But I would gently rub around his ear and if he acts like its tender then I would call your pedatrician's office. At my Pedatrician's office, you can talk to the nurse and she could tell you if you should bring the baby in. Also has your baby has a had a cold with alot congestion? That can cause an ear infection.

A child will usually tug at his ears if they are bothering him.
If he's not rubbing his ears, why do you think he has an ear infection?
My daughter would always sleep better at an incline rather than flat on her back when she had an ear infection. Usually that meant me holding her in the recliner -- do NOT prop a baby up on a pillow to create an incline.

I work with infants at a daycare. Usually when they have ear infections they are irritable, don't sleep as well as normal, don't drink as well from their bottles. If they are crawling or walking it will affect their balance and they may fall more.

Rub gently behind his earlobe. He'll squirm if his ears hurt.
