I'd go with the sex pistols, a little more genuine and raw than the clash and of course the stooges
I feel so outraged by all these dumb asses invading "yahoo answers" with questions about how to become a punk,where to buy punk clothes,where to get a punk haircut and "what are some tips for a punk look"I wish I could slap them all until they wake up and make the difference between real punk and emo-pop-rock-punk.
..it's so sad....

The Sex Pistols kind of had the edge because they grabbed the attention. The Clash made better music. But the Pistols attitude was pure punk even if it was manufactured. Look at Johhny Rotten. He's still pissed off! But you're right... it's a draw.

The Brits might have spawned punk, but America perfected it. The Clash or the Sex Pistols? Yah, they're both ok, but not the best by far. And don't be so quick to call everything you don't like emo.
