Mooball Pub on the old pacific highway - take the Murwillumbah turnoff from the freeway to the Pottsville turnoff. It's the besr beer garden I've ever been to. Kid and dog friendly and with a beautiful fenced swimming pool and plenty of shady areas. On a hot day you can pull in off the road and fall in the pool without even having to buy a beer. The counter lunches aren't too bad either. Bistro or restaurant style. The locals are a really cool and friendly crew too.

The Newport Arms in Sydney was going to be my answer but I see a vote for the Cottesloe in Perth - also a very deserving contender. Difficult choice.
Both have great views, and great beer gardens.
Cottesloe is a walk to the beach and you can watch the sunset over the water. Whereas I think the Newport arms has better food and is a better set out pub overall.
hmmm if pushed I would go for the Cottesloe by a nose. Perth people are more friendly than Sydney's insular peninsula.

Hi Ernie!
I will have to say the Humpreys Tavern in Koondoola Perth, W.A.
Why? Cause it has the best bouncers there that will walk you to your car AT ANY TIME day or night! Best on Friday nights for it's "dancing girls" with limited stretch marks and tattoos. The pub also has it's own bartering system which is conducted with the locals, shout them a beer or two to keep from being severly throttled. And for the adrenalin junkies you'll be continously thinking once you walk in the door if your going to make it out of there alive or if your cars been broken into or burnt/stolen.

The Newport Arms is fantastic and is Australia's largest waterfront beer garden.
You have heaps of room, great food and drink and views of the water. There is even a small playground for the kids, so you can have a day with your mates without paying for a babysitter.
The beer garden also has the Northern Beach's largest oudoor cinema screen which is great for when there are major sporting matches on. It shows sport every day of the week.
Take note that on days like Father's Day and some holidays you have to get there early to get a table as it gets very busy.

The best beer garden in Australia would have to be with out a doubt the Watson's Bay Hotel Beer Garden-it has a great view of the Sydney Harbour and is rite on the beach-last time I was there they still sold jugs of beer and even jugs of Bourbon and coke !!
You really have to see this place to enjoy its beauty and atmosphere,as I'm pretty sure you would have done Ernie.

I do have to agree with Mr. C - the Oaks in Neutral Bay is a fab beer garden, but another unsung one is the Willows Tavern in Risdon, Hobart. It is often overlooked because the area where it is located is not that fashionable, but it has a huge enclosed beer garden with barbeques that people can use with their own food, giving it an almost picnic site feel. It is surrounded by bushland and has excellent food and beers, as well as top service.

I find the Golden Sheaf in Double Bay a great beer garden. In winter it has the outdoor heaters on to keep you warm and in summer....well, you enjoy the summer breeze! The food is fantastic and the crowd is funky, yet relaxed. The lighting is just right - dark, with just enough light to give it a good atmosphere.

Definitely the Quokka Arms Hotel on Rottnest Island. You can relax with a beer as you look over the water towards the city and pretend you don't have a care in the world. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends or to meet new people. Plus it’s right on the beach!

Perth would have to be the Best Beer Garden Venue, we haven't had an event here in a while. But it would be great to have a expo here again in Perth. We have the best weather in Australia for the Festival as our heat is dry not humid as it is in Queensland. As for the other states Perth wins hands down.
We have the best weather all round. Giving every opportunity to market the Beer Festival to its optimum.
