I can't believe so many people do not know the correct answer. The correct answer is 1.38MB of data. Formatting takes the disk capacity from 1.44MB to 1.38MB. That is a standard 3.5" floppy.
There were some floppy disks that allowed you to store more, but required a special drive, such as Zip Drives, Jaz Drives and SuperDisk drives.
Floppies still serve a purpose, which is a bootdisk or to transfer small docs or pictures. Realistically, USB flash drives or CD's are the more cost-effective solution to transfer large amounts of data.

Max was 1.2 megs. 5 1/2" FLOPPY. Not a 3 1/2" diskette.
I can see no one here has even HEARD of a floppy disk.

u should just get a usb they can hold about the info that 100 floppy disks ca hold.

1.44 mb which is small by todays file sizes. get a CD or DVD burner they are cheap. Plus alot of the new computers dont even come with the floppy dirve. time to upgrade --or get a usb flash drive

1.44mb but you can compress them and get more. click on the help files that came with your computer
if your computer has a usb port i suugest you forget about floppies. they are terribly unreliable.
get a usb 2.0 flash drive that can hold hundreds of mege bytes and even several gigabytes

it is 1.4megabytes and it's capacity is very small so if your could get a CD burner i think that will be OK.NOTE:a re-writable CD has a capacity of 700 megabytes
