I'm taking care of a 9 month old. You wear them out by playing with them. When it gets close to 10 pm, we turn out most of the lights and play a bit longer. If he doesn't settle down within a few minutes, we turn off the noise(TV, radio). after a few more minutes, I put him in bed and sit with him (out of reach)till he goes to sleep. Works every time.

Well, unfortunately there is no magic formula to make a child sleep..let alone sleep through the night. The best thing is to begin to develop a routine at this age. Perhaps move bath time to 1 hr before bed. then read a short book, or just look at the colorful pages. Don't play with the baby and get him/her all fired up again. Whatever routine you choose, you need to be willing to stick with it for awhile. Humans love routine(don't you get ready almost the same way every day?) Well, babies like it too. I put on my daughter's favorite CD and rock her for a few minutes, then put her down with the SAME blanket. Granted she is 18 months, blankets are not a good idea at 7 months..unless you can swaddle the baby. They really like that too. But, make sure you teach the routine to EVERYONE who cares for the baby, so they will know it too, and the baby will start to settle in...I'm guessing in a week or so. Many 7 months old are going through growth spurts and will still wake for night feedings, so be prepared for that. Don't bother putting cereal in the bottle if you formula feed..that usually doesn't work. If they're hungry..they're hungry. Gotta feed them!!

It's suggested to have a bedtime between 700 and 830pm, or whatever works for your schedule really. Have a nice relaxing betime routine, bath, feed, story. Be sure he's not overtired, as long as he has good naps during the day, and is awake no more then 3-4 hrs before bed he'll have an easier time settling down. Let him cry a bit, then go in every 5-10 minutes to shush him and pat him, you can increase the time you go in until he falls asleep, or sit in the room until he sleeps, whatever makes you comfortable. Make sure he's not overstimulated and he's been fed, changed, is warm enough. As long as all that is covered, then a bit of crying won't hurt.

How do you "make" your 7-month old go to sleep at night with no problem... it's not going to happen, Mom. He's just a baby. The best thing to do is to make bedtime routines consistent and make sure you understand how much sleep he needs. My son only needed 5 hours sleep a night until he was 1.5years (it was exhausting, but it was his sleep pattern). My daughter slept 8-10 hours per night (it was a welcome relief). In any case, trust me on this... you spend the first ten years of their lives trying to get them to bed and the second ten years of their lives trying to get them out of bed (lol)!

You probably should have started this a little earlier but I always gave my two kids a bath (suggested to me by someone I worked with) just before bed so that they expected to go to bed right after every day < also might I suggest NO NIGHT LIGHTS , I know it seems logical but I have a nephew 8 years who still wonders around all night and flips every light in the house on when he visits.

You have to change his sleeping schedule- write down his napping schedule and move his last afternoon nap up earlier- and if you can eliminate it, do so- also give him his bath about 1/2 hr after eating so he is "ready" for bed. Routine is the key- changes in his daily routine will make him be unpredictable so it's best to stick with a schedule once you get him to sleep at night. Good luck

You have many options:

1) Give him a nice bath before putting him down to sleep
2) rock him softly and hum to him or always have some soft music playing in his room
3) driving him around is good
4) you can get him one of those teddy bears that makes the sounds a baby hears in the womb; it comforts them (Toys R Us) used to have them
5) Give him a nice bottle with barley or oatmeal; this fills them up and gets them sleepy

GOOD LUCK!!! :-)

Drive him around in the car for about 20 minutes. That usually works.
