When should kids get a cell phone?

when do you think kids should get a cell phone? im not saying that i DONT have one, its just that i'd like your opinions on it.

PLEASE do not say whenever their ready, or once they can afford it.....................i just want a straight out answers, and a reason why. personally, i beleive 12 is the right age for boys and 14 for girls, mainly because cell-phones encourage girls to start vvhoring the world.

Haha. I'd say for boys 12 or 13 and for girls well they don't need cell phones at all. And yeah that is right about girls and cell phones.

ok, girls should be getting phones the same age as boys, i got a cell when i was ten, and i have not used a phone the way you think i would. sexist much? I feel a kid should get his or her phone when the kid has alot of activitys that leave them away from school or home, like music lessons, or sports, incase something goes wrong and they need to call the parent. even when they have school clubs, things can get cancled on short notice so the parent needs to be called. The only thing i feel is that a 10 year old should not be getting something like a RAZR, i started out with my moms really old phone, and it did the job.

they should only get a cell if they need one. like for instance the only reason i got a cell phone was because i had vball every night and tournaments every weekend all over the country so i needed a cell phone for emergencies and calling home to say hi to my family. i think if a kid doesn't have to be anywhere after school or things or if they just hang out with friends then they can ask their friends for phones b/c everyone has phones these days. kids at least need a phone when their 15 - 16 because when they drive home or to places and they are in a wreck they need to call 911. just advice!

I would say whenever they get their liscence. They don't really need them until then. Cell phones are not for talking on the way home from school, before work, after work, or after lights out. They are intended for emergencies, usually out on the road. Adults need cell phones, to keep in contact with work, and home. Kids don't have jobs that keep them on the road (like business trips). They aren't really needed until the driving age. And only then for emergencies. That's just my opinion, and I'm 16 so take it or leave it. And yeah, you're a sexist jerk.

I believe that in today's world kids should get cell phones when their younger only because of all the dangers that are in today's world. I think that younger kids should have those little cell phones that kids can use with the little pics of mommy & daddy on the buttons. Teens should have the real thing when people try to harm them at age eleven. There are molestors and rapists out there who look to harm kids and teens, so they should get them at a younger age than ever.

I didn't get a cell phone for my daughter until she was sixteen. I felt it was the correct time because that's when she started driving and I felt it was a safety issue.

My son is 15 and wants one too. I told him no. At times I regret it, as he has sports practices and it would be nice if he could call me when he's ready to be picked up.

Now, as for your words on girls. Stop it now! Treat girls and all women in your life with respect. If you wish to be respected as a man in a few years, start with yourself.

I say about 14 for both...and that comment is so sexist!!! Just because girls have cell phones, doesnt encourage them to be a who*e. Guys can be just as much if not more of one.

I got one at 12, it all depends on the persons responsibility level and maturity, I am going to have to disagree on the last part. I am NOT like that, I use it maybe 4 times a week. All in ones opinion I guess.

Ok, THAT is sooo sexes! I think that it should be around 9 th grade because before that is stupid( unless you give it to them like in an emergency.. like with friends) I think that they should not have them to just chat with friends on. I think at 9th grade they should only get a phone that is prepaid or something and they should buy the minutes with there money ( or Christmas money/presents/birthday) I think it does not depend on the sex of the child...IT TAKES 2 TO TANGO!!!
