Restore the hard drive, cause maybe you are using all of the gb hd space. You can delete some programs too. Go to Control Panel ---------> Add/Remove programs ----------> and take away any programs you dont use or you dont need. Also, you can upgrade your speed (RAM, MhZ, etc). Replacing your hard drive isnt a good idea because basically its like getting a new computer. Also, you cant get a new computer if you would like. Good luck, right now Core 2 Duo is the FASTEST!!! The fastest in pentiums is Pentium for, and there is now Centrino, which is also fast. Good luck, if its an old, old old computer throw it away.

a comp may slow down due to a number of reasons
1. highly fragmented hard disk
2. lots programs running in background
3. spyware, viruses etc
4. too many programs installed
5. inadequate RAM
1. firstly, clean up your hard drive. go to [My Computer]. right click on the hard drive. and select disk clean up.
2. uninstall any unwanted softwares. too often we have so many softwares we do not need, installed on our systems. just go to [Control Panel]->[Add/Remove Programs] and uninstall all those softwares which you do not need.
3. scan fro viruses and spyware. often a system slows due to spyware and viruses which may hog the processor and the memory. use any good tool to remove these.
4. defrag your hard drive. fragmentation means your files are dplit up instead of storing as one unit on your hard drive. defragmenting may give significant performance gains. go to [Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Defragment Disk] and defrag all your hard drives/partitions. this may take a while, but will definitely improve system performance.
5.often, you might just have too many programs running in the background, which you may not be using. for example, most messenger clients are loaded at startup even if you may not be using them. disabling these will not only speed up your comp, but also lead to a much faster startup.
go to [Start->Run]
type msconfig and press enter
on the startup tab, uncheck all the programs, except those which you really want to start at startup (don worry, even if you clear the check box against your messenger client, you can start it any time you want. just that it does not load at startup)
click ok. and restart your system.
6. there are a few other useful tweaks also, but come with a word of caution, as going wrong with them can play havoc with your system. if the above steps do not offer much improvement, and if you are a sufficiently advanced user, then just post acomment, and i'll tell you the advanced techniques also. but the above ones will generally give signficvant improvement.
if none of the above give much improvement, re-installing windows might help
and finally, if none of these do, then the only option left is to upgrade your pc and spend some money on RAM and a faster processor.

- Download a Spyware program such as Adware, and use it daily
- Shut your computer off at night, this will clear your computers cache
-Do Disk Defragmentation at least once a week
- Close down all unessessary programs, like Weather Services or other thing you download because they seem cute or usefull...
- If problems persist, do a system restore.

You can buy more memory and delete some of the stuff stored on your hard drive that you are not using. They are just taking up space and helping to slow down your system.

go to safety.live.com
and run the spyware/virus cleaner to detect for any malware.
your computer might be slow from running viruses and spyware, or you may want to disable some programs from booting up in your computer, to check whats running on your processes, click Start - > go to Run - > and type in: msconfig
when the screen opens go to the last tab labeled Start Up, check whats booting up on your computer and disable anything you don't.

Clean the drive using disk cleanup, defrag, and maybe buy some new memory. Also, running a virus and spyware check wouldnt hurt.

first clean out all your temporary internet folders (TIF, temp, prefetch, cache, cookies). Also, you can obtain a memory op[timizing program that will help optimize your computer's memory. I know that sounds redundant, but I cant think of any way else to explain it. FreeRam is one of the best and can be obtained for FREE .
