The Romanovs were rounded up and shot by anti-Monarchists who were communists in 1918.
Supposedly it was Nicholas, Alexandria and their children, plus their maid and their dog all in exile when men came into where they were staying and requested that the family get ready to go.
They all complied and went into a room to wait.
Then men came in with guns and started opening fire.
Nicholas, Alexandria and all of them died immediately, except for Anastasia and Alexei the maid and the dog. They were alive and wounded.
The men then went and stabbed Anastasia with a bayonet and shot Alexei through the ear.
They then shot the screaming maid and the dog.
Their bodies were loaded into a truck and then taken into the forests near Ekaterinburg where they were dismembered and had acid poured on them to prevent identification.

They were executed in a room that they had been led to under the pretense that they were to be photographed. Instead, they were shot. The bullets bounced off the girls, as they were wearing diamonds under their clothes. I think they were bayoneted to death. The bodies of two of the children were never found, Anastacia and her brother.
