He's done. There is no way he could ever win office (or be appointed) again. No one really likes him, and he has proven his incompetence.

No vengeance, and maybe no more politics. He's probably sick of the abuse he has taken anyway. Still, hardly anyone with Donald Rumsfeld's background and credentials goes off to spend the rest of his life twiddling his thumbs. You can bet that he will be seen again in a responsible position, but maybe not in government.
Any doubts? Just consider what the Brits did to Winston Churchill after Gallipoli, and how he came back to win WW2.

Rumsfeld will be a consultant for Bush. After that, he will be a consultant for the next Republican President. Kissinger was supposed to be gone from politics after the troop pull out of Saigon, but Bush brought him back into the fold. Remember, Kissinger was the man that many blame for Vietnam and the current state of the Arab world.

He was Sec Def in 1974 and he was CEO of G.D. Searle in the 80s, so I expect he will have some high profile job. Some people like his attitude.

I think (and hope) that he will end up in court to answer to the people for all the harm he has caused.
Maybe he can even do some serious time in Guantanamo Bay.
