Or start with a C but can also be spelled with a K. I want something unique, yet not too weird where they will be made fun of.

To gothammom: My name is Tiffany, and neither me OR my parents are lower class. So I disagree with what you say, but I see your point.

Don't do unique spellings. There are tons of studies that show that parents who saddle their children with unique spellings see that their children earn less and get into college less than their more normal-named counterparts. You don't want a daughter named Kandi. The rule of thumb is to imagine your daughter as a presidential candidate -- Kandi Smith or Kristyie Smith or Karol Smith v. Katherine Smith or Kate Smith or even Kristin Smith. Always, when in doubt, go for the upper-class name over the unique name. You'll be doing a child a great service by heeding this rule.

Unfortunately there are great class differences in this country, Just as African-American parents do their children a great disservice by naming their children LaToya or KeShawn, many lower-class parents do the same disservice by naming their children Tiffany, Amber, Kaitlin, Karol, etc.

If you want your child to succeed in mainstream America, you have to give them a mainstream name. I'm sorry, but nothing spells trailer trash more than a uniquely spelled name. Let your child find her uniqueness through her achievements, not through her uniquely spelled name.

Do some studies on this -- I certainly don't mean to be rude or make assumptions about your class status. I just want your little girl to have a good start in life. Give her a name that will allow her to live up to her potential -- not a name that she has to live down. I'd only do Katharine. And if you do choose Katharine, you have to do it with an A and not with an E (Katherine). Trust me, there is a class difference between the A and the E.

Honestly, I know this stuff. Trust me on this.
