I remember when we used to be known as 'GREAT Britain' rather than 'Cool Britannia'. Every day in the papers there is an article about someone being told not to do something, and they stop doing it, however ridiculous it may seem.
Example 1: Businesses are told not to put up decorations in case they offend non-Christians.
Common sense view: Let each religion celebrate however it wishes, as long as no one is physically injured. Otherwise, if Christmas is to be cancelled, can M&S be sued because it is closed on Christmas Day when some people may want to go shopping??
Example 2: Man is fined for putting paper in with his bottle recycling.
Common sense view: What difference does this make? Do they not realise that most bottles have labels on them? So, are we now meant to remove the labels when we recycle our bottles?

1 - the businesses do this out of choice, Nobody tells them to. They assume they may offend non-Christians and don't want to pay legal damages. Whether or not the non-Christians do or do not take offence (which they won't) does not matter, the fact someone thinks they might decides corporate policy.
2 - he was wrong to put it in there. What difference does it make to vomit over clothes before I give them to a charity shop - they wash them anyway? When I recycle bottles I do remove the labels, do it when I wash the bottles, it's just common decency. It's like flushing public toilets after I use them - I don't have to but I prefer to show consideration.
People should just act in a decent way without having to be told. Then we would not need so many stupid new laws - if we were all decent to each other then Britain would be Great.

I am a Great Briton, I live in a country called Great Britain and I think it good to be called "Cool Britannia" I put up decorations in my house at Christmas and any other time I wish to celebrate something or have a party. The same applies to my business premises.. I will not apologise to any one of any religion for saying that I don`t care a toss what other people think. This is what we do at Christmas time in this country. England is a protestant country, our `official` religion is Church of England, there are a few minority religious groups here as well, but that is fine by us.I was born in this country as were generations of my family before me, and there are hundreds of thousands of people exactly like me. I really think it is time that visitors and newcomers to our shores showed some respect for our history and traditions.

I think we always were .When we don`t like something we just bleet about it with our mates ,it takes us a few hundred years to motivate our selves to do anything
I don`t think it`s the non christians that are objecting to christmas or black people who want baa baa rainbow sheep all the ones i know are embarressed about this kind of PC crap ,I know lots of non christian families who do christmas as well as atheists There are loads of Muslims sikhs and hindus where my sister lives and a good few of them have got a christmas tree (i`m nosey ,i stare in peoples windows when i walk past them )
The last example is another of the councils scams for getting more money out of us (the true motive for every thing they do )some one near me got fined for leaving their wheelie bin lid open ,i read it in the paper, they said it was a health hazzard .and i heard about someone getting fined for putting the wrong stuff in the recycle bin
what an evil crime ,no wonder the prisons are full.

You are correct. I watch the UK from Germany these days and it is sad to see a country I was once proud of collapsing into a state where everybody is scared of doing the wrong thing. I never thought I would say this, but we could learn a few lessons from the French
