I'M NOT, BUT THINK IT'D BE GREAT TO HAVE CUSTOMS, FOOD, MUSIC, DRESS AND DANCING FROM BOTH COUNTRIES TO SHARE.

nri, huh?

yeah, me too. i dont belong to two countries. i belong to India. but in reality, im not really an Indian anymore. im too american.

so my political loyalties will always lie in my mothercountry, my place of birth. i can tell because i get really emotional on independence day and i want to do something to better MY country. thats how i think of it, as MY country.

but the chances of me returning are moot. not only for obvious cultural reasons (arranged marriage? i dont think so!), but also because i have lived twelve years in the US. i owe much of my education, my career opportunities, my ideals, to this nation. i have a responsibility to defend it as well!

you'll always be Indian, no matter what, but thankfully, being american doesnt mean you give up your other ethnic identities. i know in India you are either hindustani or american, but in america, at least, i can be both. you are a child of cultural syncretism! rejoice in your uniqueness, for you inherited the best of both countries!

Its pretty cool. Personally I felt like I was betraying my original country but I soon got over it. I knew I could love both countries in their own different way. Besides.... a decade is a very long time... trust! :)

My wife is German, but has lived in the UK for mearly 30 years. she still talks about "going home", and has never worked out British humour.

I think she now feels she is neither one or the other.
