After only 5 weeks it should be like a really heavy period and last a week and sometimes a week and a half. This is because your placenta had not grown very big. If it is over the first trimester it should be more like the bleeding after childbirth. A lot of women have a first trimester miscarriage and don't know because it is almost indistinguishable from a very heavy period. If the bleeding lasts more than a two weeks, if you have severe cramping (worse than menstrual cramps), or a bad odor, you should go to the doctor and make sure everything came out.

Your body won't get back to normal for a couple of months. I just had a miscarriage at 17 weeks this last August- and it took a good 3 months for me. I am just now feeling normalish. If you think you're having abnormal problems discuss them with your doctor. They'll be able to put any worries to rest.

physically by the second period, all changes had returned to normal and i felt like my old body was back.

emotionally that all depends on how and if you have grieved/ dealt with the loss as well as having the right support.

i have had 5 misscarriage and from them alone i can tell you each one had its different issues.
my first was a shock, found out i was preg and told i lost it on the same day. ( bad as it sounds it didnt affect me)
the last ones were very hard.

see a counsellour, your religious advisor or a trusted friend even if you dont feel the need too it will help in all kinds or ways.

u need to trust what your body/mind is telling u.
