Yes, be it religion or the belief in mythical creatures.
Superstitions often allow for new forms of discrimination between people, and that leads to more feuds, banishments, executions, and possibly even wars. (For example, in the Middle Ages people often were killed for being "werewolves." In the case of religion, the current state of affairs between the two religious beliefs in Ireland can be cited as an example.) Such un-based beliefs also can cause racism and other biased forms of thought, further increasing discrimination against groups of people.
Another point is that superstitions normally push aside any logic or evidence against them, which leads to ignorance. A definite example is the Dark Ages of Western Europe, where the Roman-Catholic church kept many outside thoughts away from the Europeans, focusing people's attention on the Bible instead of scientific inquiries. Also, like in the story of Troy, religion often vanquishs over observations: instead of listening to Hector's military advice to defeat the Greeks, his father chose to listen to the prophet of Apollo, whose prediction was wrong. While the story is questionable in its portrayal of historic events, it captures the essence of religion's importance in the minds of many very well. Such religious importance then caused a lack of intellectual advancements, reigning in the possible greatness of many civilizations.
Be it through pure fear, regional myths, or "the word of God," superstitions definitely hurt the case of humankind.

Superstitions have their origin in ignorance.
Ignorance disappears when man is educated.
A logical, educated and scientific person can not accept superstitions.
However mankind has not been able to get rid of many BLIND BELIEFS and PREJUDICES of different types - racial, national, gender, social class.
I consider that PREJUDICES that have their roots in the moral education of man and his deep inner feelings are the greatest enemy because they are harder to fight and eliminate.

For me ,I think its SUSPICION .That great human weakness,
is the basis that racism, religious prejudice and social prejudice are founded on.
If its different and I don't understand it then it must be bad/wrong type of thinking.
Being suspicious of superstition is a great bane on society .
I often wonder will we ever get passed this primitive trait that breeds wars, hatred and injustice.
Its sad that that religious organisations don't use their immense power to eliminate suspicion, rather than condone and in fact encourage it.

Yeah, just go ahead and say it.... Religious fervor will be mankind's downfall.... we all know it. Its just a matter of time before some Islamic terrorist sets off a Nuke in the West somewhere and the whole damn planet decays into "kill or be killed" " My God is better than your God" mentality, and we all plunge into "The Last Great War" for the last few drops of oil and other rapidly dwindling natural resources. The survivors will be hurtled back hundreds of years into a post modern dark age where pockets of technological development compete with sixteenth century morality and hordes of radioactive neo-Christian zombies for whatever uncontaminated fresh water still exists. Makes you proud to be a Homo Sapiens doesn't it?

Didn't ya'll watch the South Park Double Episode this year. Wars are put in God's name, but there are going to be wars no matter what. Whether they are in the name of science, territory or in the name of pink little bunnies. Don't fool yourself. People are not as good as you think they are. The three reasons for war: Gold, power, territory.

faith will under no circumstances rule the international, yet Christ will. Jesus Christ is extra actual than any substance widely used to guy. I have met Him. Now it really is a actuality in its self. definite, i'll claim it, because you are able to't see me, yet there's a particular volume of credibility that is going with it. thinking the actuality that i'm fairly realized basically through reading my textual content. What i really want to say is that all of it boils all the way down to the fellow, because God deals with that one, no longer in mass. those who carry their foutunes to substance will proceed on the line to demise and the grave, yet life will proceed. No technological knowledge, no bomb, no pestilance, or the different plague will ever wipe it out. technological knowledge is going to have complications interior the arrival days. they could't contrive logical factors to the failings that are going to go back forth. the international will burn with the interest that Jesus Christ lives interior the flesh of each actual believer. purely then will technological knowledge have the liberty it quite desires.
