I have to go in tomorrow for the doctors to turn my baby. They said there is a chance my water could break. If my water does break will they rush me in for a c-section and put me to sleep, or will I have time to a spinal before they take me in for a c- section... my baby is breech.

You probably wil have time. The baby could turn on it's own, too. My youngest was breech, but I wasn't concerned because it was to be a repeat c-section. The night before I was to go in I was bending over to get the suitcase from under my bed when I had the strangest sensation - sort of a major internal "flop". Sure enough, she had turned on her own.
You'll have time for a spinal as a general rule. Don't worry - good luck and congratulations :)

Unfortunately, there isn't one correct answer to your question because there are so many different ways to approach your dilemma. I will attempt to focus on the type of anesthesia you will likely have: sleep (general anesthesia) versus a spinal. Also, I am assuming that the pregnancy is otherwise uncomplicated and that mom and unborn baby are otherwise healthy. In general, the most common practice for a c-section that is NOT an emergency is to give spinal or epidural anesthesia. Remember that just because your water breaks doesn't necessarily constitute an emergency. You may begin to labor when your water breaks, but many obstetricians are willing to attempt to deliver a breech baby as long as the baby is not endangered. So, even if your water breaks, you may have plenty of time to get a spinal before a c-section. However, if you or your baby do not respond well to the turning, potential breaking of your water, or labor, your obstetrician may consider this a truly emergent c-section in which case you would need general anesthesia. The reason general anesthesia would be used is because it is usually the fastest method of anesthesia to undertake in order to quickly deliver your baby. The decision place a pregnant patient under general anesthesia is not taken lightly because of the greater potential for anesthesia-related complications. That said, the overwhelming majority of patients who have spinal or general anesthesia do well, and their babies do great, too!

Yes, you do! I agree with the first post, not only cause your water breaks means your baby is coming out! Dont worry they will put you on something. The hospital usually orders an ultrasound to check once more if the baby is breech, to start with. Good Luck!

My water broke a month early, but they still had to induce me bc I wasn't contracting. On the other hand your water could break and then baby could come really fast. In your situation though I think there is no doubt about it that you will be able to get your epidural, only bc they will be breaking you water themselves ( on accident ) and you probably wont be in active labor (contractions and all) You could even have the baby normally if they succed in turning the baby. Congrats and good luck to you!

your water can break and you could have the baby 1 hour or 6 hours after. Just because you water breaks doesn't mean the baby is coming out at that moment

yeah, unless the babys head ( or other body part) is comming out, you can get a spinal. If part of the baby is showing, they will probably put you to sleep. Hope I helped you and the very best of luck!

You will have time for a spinal unless you're baby is coming so fast that there's no time and then you have no problems any way.
