go for a nice classy pulled together look that you wont mind having up there for a while, so I would stay away from themes. I am 13 and recently made my room into a bohemian, african, and classy room. I LOVE IT! Gl

What are her interests??
We did my daughters room really cute... She and I outlined BIG stars on 3 of her walls, BIG, like 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet from top to bottom. Pointing all different ways. You can't do too many though otherwse it looks crowded.
Then we had a few of her friends over for a painting party. I bought pizza and soda and they filled in all the stars with pink paint. Then we took the one wall (that her closet is on) and painted the whole wall solid pink.
We hung 3 drapes, sheer white and pink as the top layer and then the inside panel was solid black as an accent.
Very cute.

Pick something that she can grow into. Don't go with a theme, like Barbie, or whatever, because in as little as six months, she could be hitting adolescence, and you'll be redecorating again.
Why not have her pick some of her favourite colours and do a lot of solid colours and a few simple shapes, like blue walls, green bed, purple carpeting and trim, or something? That way, it's more general, and once she hits her teen years, she can personalize it anyway she likes.

What does she like? Her room should be designed so that she can grow into it. If you fill her room with "my little pony" stuff, she might like it now, but in 2 years she'd be too old for that. Use soft pastel colors, don't use more than 1 color on the walls and do fun pattern(s) on curtains and pillows. Make look like a big girl's room. You can find affordable and fun stuff in Target.

I think 13-year-olds have outgrown themes. Decorate it just like you would an older person's bedroom, but use bright colors. It's grown-up (which teenagers are always striving for) but still fun, and she can live in it for years.

Things that have to do with fashion. Pottery Barn Teen has a lot of ideas. Even if you don't order from there, at least you can get a sense of the style.

I don't know what her life style is. Is she more punk, goth, preppy, girly? Not all 13 year girls are the same so you would have to see what is attractive to you or her. Don't go with everyone else just because it is everyone else.
