Exactly. continuing US military occupation is "critical to our security." You answered the question yourself" Iraq only became a real threat to US security after the invasion and occupation. There were no terrorists in Iraq. There were no WMD's. Terrorists were and are holed up worldWIDE. They have taken over parts of the Middle East, including of course, Iraq. But it is the fault of this government. Period. and it is United States occupation. It is NOT an American occupation. North America (Canada) in its entirety, Central America and South America have nothing to do with this occupation. And they are just as much "American" as is the United States. This is a United States occupation. Period.
Additionally, not every person in every other country embraces a westernized form of freedom and democracy, especially when they are faced with death and trepidation every day of their lives.
Bush says whatever sounds good. Most of the time even he doesn't have any idea what he is talking about and doesn't have a clue as to what is happening anywhere.

AAAAARRRRRGHHHHHH!! I disagree with your contention that we occupy Iraq. And as for Pres Bush's statement, we need to help foster a Free Democratic state in that region. As those of us who cherish freedom know, the desire of every person on Earth is to live in freedom and prosperity. If we can help a Democratic Iraq prosper, this will provide all those poor souls who yearn for freedom, a beacon to follow to help them overthrow the shackles of tyranny they currently live under. By promoting freedom around the globe, the USA will become safer because free societies are less aggressive than their totalitarian counterparts.

Saddam was a threat to our security. Failure in Iraq would be a disaster for our security. We need to win.
