Chances are, the reason the tampon hurts is because you are still a virgin. Your hymen is still intact. The hymen is a piece of skin with a hole in the middle to allow for blood to flow out but will tear the first time you have intercourse. It will not harm you if this breaks when using a tampon although most times it doesn't. It might hurt but it will not harm you. Also, when inserting the tampon, read the directions that tell you the best positions to be in for insertion. These really do help in making sure it goes in well. Know that a tampon can not get "lost" up there because there is a cervix up there that keeps it from going any further than when you insert it. Also, if the tampon is dry when you pull it out, it might be more uncomfortable but it will not harm you. The good part is that once the hymen is broken, the pain should no longer happen. I am not suggesting that you go break it but if it gets broken from inserting the tampons, then after that you shouldn't have any trouble. EDIT: Tampax is the only brand I will use. It is the only brand that was not associated with the major TSS issue back in the 80's. They are well constructed and personally I believe a better product. I would try the Tampax Pearl as they have a plastic applicator which has a rounded tip and it would be more comfortable. Many people said to use lubricant to insert it, which would be easy with the plastic applicator. Also, as for the person who said that heavy activities are not recommended during the heavy flow time. This is simply not true. Heavy activity is likely to cause a lighter flow while you are active, so be prepared for a heavier flow when you lay down for the night. Activities are also a good way to alleviate cramping.

There could be 2 reasons here. Firstly, you could be using a size with too much absorbancy. Try a lighter flow size, which will also be slightly slimmer. Secondly, it could be that the tampon has absorbed all your natural lubrication around this area, making it stick to your vaginal wall. The soloution is the same as above, use a less absorbant tampon. Also, remember never to leave a tampon in for more than 8 hrs.
Good luck!!!!

It may be the size you are using. The tampon should be bought according to how heavy or light your flow is. If you are not sure what size fits your needs best buy a box with different sizes & try them from the smallest first. If you use a size which is not necessary for you the tampon will be dry when you remove it & it will pull your tissue during removal which hurts. Hope this helps.

You not putting the tampon in u all the way.
It is uncomfortale at first , then u will realize u forgot it is there once u start wearin them right.
Pads are usually safer cause they dont cause toxic shock syndrome like tampons.

you may not be putting it in right or you may be unable to wear them, i can not use on the minute i put it in I'm in pain. Can you talk to your mom or another female about this? If not maybe you can talk to your doctor you may be using a size to big for your body. My daughter has to use the very slim ones, if she trys to use a regular it hurts.

Basically, the blood helps lubricate the tampon when you take it out. If you take it out before it's full, it's basically sucking up the mositure in your vagina and that can make it it bit rough to pull out.
